Beefy Spinach Crescent Loaf

Posted on May 24th, 2007 10:04 pm

I was in the mood for some comfort food and this is what I came up with! Actually, it worked too well as a comfort food because I couldn’t stop at one serving. It came out better then I expected, I know that sounds funny but sometimes I just through stuff together not knowing what to expect.

Beefy Spinach Crescent Loaf

I took two pictures.  I wanted you to see what it looked like inside and the whole loaf.  It’s kind of pretty, in away.

Beefy Spinach Crescent Loaf 2

  • 1 package PILLSBURY Crescent Rolls Reduced fat
  • Beef, ground, 90% lean meat 4 oz
  • About ¼ cup of Tomato paste
  • About 1 tsp basil, onion powder, oregano
  • About 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1-2 cups of raw spinach (I used about 1/3 of a bag so however much that is)
  • 1 small-medium tomato diced
  • 2 oz Cheese, mozzarella, part skim milk

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Roll out the crescent rolls on a cookie sheet. Press to seal the perforations.  Bake the crescent rectangle in the preheated 375 degree oven for a few minutes.  The goal here isn’t to cook it all the way but just enough so it holds together and still rolls nicely.

While it’s cooking brown the ground beef.

Smear the tomatoes paste on the roll and sprinkle with the dry spices. Layer the spinach, ground beef, diced tomatoes and cheese.  Start from one end and begin to roll.  It’s going to feel like you can’t do it but keep the roll loose.  Then let the weight of it hold it together.

Sprinkle the roll with a bit of garlic powder and basil. Bake for about 10-15 minutes.

Makes 4 large servings!  Each serving is about 307 calories, 15g of fat, 2g of fiber.

I have been a total lurker for a while —really love the site.

I have been SEARCHING for reduced fat crescent rolls- where do you get them??? I live in a large metro city but still can’t seen to find them

@Andrea - I just got them in the regular grocery store (giant, weiss, redners). They look just like the regular with a little green strip that says reduced fat. Look close I bet they are there!

Hope that helps!

[…] I forgot to mention that I made these last night and they were sooooo good I wanted to share! I saw Roni’s recipe for Beefy Spinach Crescent Loaf http://weightwatchen.com/2007/05/24/beefy-spinach-crescent-loaf/ and decided that you could use the same concept with FF cream cheese and fruit. I simply took two of the rolls and kept them together in a square. I filled the square with Fat Free Cream cheese and sugar free cherry pie filling. I folded one end of the square over the filling and sealed it on the edges. Then I sprayed the top with olive oil spray and topped with sweetener. Bake at 350 until golden brown! YUM YUM!!!! […]

[…] Well, I was down 1/2 a pound this morning. I think the small victories feel better sometimes because I’m more confident that they’ll stick and are actually acurate. Robby made Roni’s Beef and Spinach Crescent Loafs which are kinda like homeade pizza pockets. They were soo good and really hit the spot for me. He put more meat in there by accident, so I added 2 points to my portion to be safe. This weekend I’m going to Austin with a couple girlfriends and we have sworn that we will be ww friendly and split food, so I hope I don’t have a gain on Monday. I’m also receiving my Bento Box in the mail today so I’m going to make an effort to bring fresh lunches 3 times a week so I won’t be as bored with Lean Cuisines and I can get more fresh fruits and veggies in. Also, when I make my own meals, I tend to get more food for the points than frozen meals. Wish me luck this weekend! I can’t promise I won’t eat a snowcone at Barton Springs since I’m sure it will be in the 90’s. […]

Making this tonight! I will be making two, one meat-less for me (not really a fan of ground beef).. and one meat for my husband. Thank you so much for adding the calorie info., I am a counter! Any idea how many calories one serving w/o meat is? Thanks!!

Update: It was great!! I did a no-meat for me, though I thought about adding grilled chicken or turkey pepperoni. I just used extra tomato/spinach and a bit extra cheese. I also added some Parmesan cheese inside and sprinkled some on top as well. Another new favorite, thanks Roni!

This looks so yummy, and I can't wait to try it. I also thought to save time (no browning of the burger) you could add turkey pepperoni instead of the ground beef. Thanks for your great ideas and inspiration.

Wow...all I can say is YUM!!! I made this tonight for myself and after smelling it, hubby wanted some too. He had a few bites, because he'd already eaten, and said I should make it again. I loved it!!! I will definitely make this again and again. Thank you for another great recipe.
