Breakfast Tip for Moms

Well, you don’t have to be a Mom but Moms would more then likely have toddler bowls hanging around!

The toddler eating breakfastserving of cereal in a toddler bowl

I don’t know about you but when I weighed out a serving of my favorite breakfast cereals for the first time, I almost cried. It was an eye opening experience to actually see what a serving size was! I mean a ½ a cup of cereal is really not that much and it’s gone in a just a few bites. Plus is looks ridiculous in big bowls and really, you don’t feel like you ate anything afterwards.

That’s why I started using the toddler’s bowls. You’d be surprised but an one of those little bowls just fits an adult serving of most cereals.

So every morning (well the mornings we aren’t eating eggs) I pull out two toddler bowls and the toddler and I sit down for breakfast. It’s fun, he gets a kick that I’m using one of his bowls and I don’t feel deprived seeing my controlled portion in an oversized soup bowl.

In case you’re wondering we are eating Kellogg’s Frosted Mini-Wheats Strawberry Delight this morning. It’s our new favorite!

great great great idea!! I usually throw a banana in there to fill up the 3/4 of a cup of my Special K I like your idea – I think my son will love it too!

I do the same thing when I want to have ice cream. We have some cone-shaped sunday cups that can’t really hold anything, but they look great over-flowing w/ice cream when it’s actually half of what I would have had otherwise.

I do the same thing- I use my kids bowls- they think it is funny when I use the princess bowls:) When I measure out my snacks for night- like chips- 25 in a kids bowl- looks way better than in a regular bowl. Have a good day:)

The small bowls are great. It’s an idea I picked up somewhere in this weight loss blog sphere awhile ago. I went and bought 4 or 5 bowls that are only about a cup in capacity from IKEA, and I use them all the time now. Love it.

Roni, I continue to follow and enjoy your blog. As far as breakfast cereal goes, I also once found it disheartening to learn just how much a ’serving’ of cereal amounts to. Personally, I can’t stay away from the Cocoa Pebbles, so I refuse to buy them ever.

Also, there is a new top sites website out called Top Sites Fitness. It is more than just a top sites website however, as there will be regular posts about search engine optimization and traffic monetization for fitness blogs and communities. You are invited to join us! Have a nice day. =)

We have found the exact same thing about the ‘cereal’ size bowls – and we use Ramekins

much like you use your toddler bowls – sorry – no toddler bowls or cups left at our house. . .

I usually put my cereal in an oversized coffee mug I bought at the Grand Canyon.

I do the same thing, and take it a step father. I buy measuring cups that look more like real bowls or cups whenever I find them (usually marshalls or homegoods). They feel ‘real’ and saves me on dishes by having all in one!
these are two sets I have:

I love doing this and there’s something about eating out of a monkey bowl which makes me feel all kinds of youthful :)

I have been using my girls bowls for a while now since they are plastic. I always hated eating cereal in a glass/stonewear bowl.

Hi Roni,

Besides the great advice, you brought back a wonderful memory for me. My son was also a Thomas the Tank Fanatic and the three of us shared many wonderful meals together! He’s now 17 and he’s put the ‘Thomas’ years behind him, but I haven’t forgotten. You are creating memories and habits that will last a lifetime for both you and your son – Way to Go!!

Toddler bowls is a great idea! The portion size is smaller. We do consume more food than needed the majority of the time.
