I FINISHED MY FIRST 5K!

Sorry didn’t mean to yell, but I DID IT!! I can’t believe it. I mean I’ve been talking about it for a while now but not until I actually crossed the finish line did it become apparent that I finished my first 5 race!

Roni's 5K my number

It was FUN! The starting gate was jam packed with people and I felt a little out of place among the High School track teams and hoards of shirtless runners with water equipped fanny packs. I stayed towards the back and kept my own pace. People passed me and that was ok. Although, my inner competitor really wanted to smoke them I knew I’d never finish if I didn’t keep a slow pace. My goal wasn’t speed it was to finish and I did that in exactly 32:40! My goal was 35 minutes so I’m ecstatic!

Here I am about a 10th of a mile from the finish. Honestly, I was dying (can you tell?) The last ½ mile was up hill and I was trying so hard to keep a jogging pace. I did stop to walk twice around the 2 mile and mark but I kept a fast pace just to get through a little cramp-age.

When I saw the husband and the toddler just after they shot this picture it was the highlight of the event. Once the toddler got a glimpse of me he was so excited and it gave me that push to speed through the finish!

Here’s my cheesy post race thumbs up shot. I look like mess but I was glowing on the inside! Really, the feeling post race was more then I expected. I was so happy I finished!

Next time, 30 minutes, what do yo think? Gosh! I’m so goal orientated! lol

congratulations!!!!!
my first 5k, i did ~37 mins. Now, 5 years later, 20 pounds lighter, i can do ~30 mins! :))))))

i love to run, but couldn’t seem to get (much) faster, no matter how much running i did.. In 4 months, i’ve lost 20 lbs, and i’m just feeling SO LIGHT, running is less effort, and am breaking PRs all the time now!

CONGRATULATIONS!

I wanted to say that I ran high school cross country and I still feel out of place (five years post high school) when I line up next to them at road races. That’s them being weird and runner-y, not you being out of place! :-D :-D

You go girl! Congratulations Roni! You are such an inspiration! That’s what I LOVE about your site!

The example you set for Ryan is so TOTALLY worth all that you do. Inpiration for my daughters is one of the reasons I am working toward a helathier lifestyle. Who knows? I may take up running of some kind myself. LOL Now THAT’S a laugh!
But, then again, stranger things have happened!

Great time! Did you do anything special to train for the 5K? Running outside is so much different than the treadmill, right? I thought of you this morning as I ran my 4 mile course, it was a gorgeous day to run on the east coast. You did great!

22 Melissa { 06.01.08 at 6:45 pm }

WOOT! Congratulations, Roni! I’ve done several 5k’s, but have yet to finish one without walking most of it. My running is improving so I hope to entirely run one eventually. WTG on such a fantastic time for your first race! :-)

woohoo! Congrats Roni! You Rock!

37 Erin C. { 06.02.08 at 10:10 am }

Congratulations Roni…I can totally relate to you wanting to “smoke them” as you put it. I remember the feeling I had when I ran my first race…I wanted to do the same. Now, I am addicted, two years and about 25 races later – I can say that I have done that…I always set my end goal to just finish…and that is the most rewarding part! Good Luck and Keep Running….

38 Miss July...not...yet { 06.02.08 at 10:13 am }

Roni! Congrats. You look great in the pic and I am betting you feel amazing…maybe a little tired.

WTG on the 5k. I just started running in April and I’m really “enjoying” it. I mapped out a 5k in the neighborhood and did it in 37 min today. My goal is to be down to at least 32 by October when I run my first official 5k!

Keep up the great work!!!
