Thanks Lance!

I'm at the beach but couldn't stay away! Last night Lance congratulated me on my longest run ever (since tracking on the Nike+iPod). I clocked a 2.29 mile run at the beach in just under 23 minutes! I even increased my pace to 9:59 minute mile. I guess that's what a flat boardwalk does for ya!

Here it is. Notice, the big dip. I was about to give up and then I pushed through. I'm so glad I did. I felt AWESOME after this run.

Run at the beach

My plan is to go again tonight to offset the french fries and ice cream! ;~)

PS If you are wondering about the Lance comment.... Lance Armstrong congratulates you when you finish a run and break some of your own records, like time, or distance. MAN! I love this thing!

Nike + iPod Sport Kit - A Review

I'm going to hold off on my journal entry tonight. I'm just not in the mood BUT I had to share my experience with the Apple Nike + iPod Thingamajig (I'm really not sure what to call it, can you tell?)

I'll start by saying, IT IS AWESOME! For a stat girl like me I can't wait to start charting all my runs and tracking them. The great thing, is it requires no work on your part besides plugging the iPod in. I was amazed.

Here's how it works.

First, you need aan older ipod nano, like these. They are the ones that have the right sized connection. a Nano. I was wrong, you just need a Nano!, sorry.

If you have the right nano you plug in a small device into the iPod. Then you put the little Nike chip in or on your shoe. I don't actually have Nike shoes so I used this shoe pouch and attached it to my laces.

That's it! Now go run!

When you get back, plug the iPod in to sync, it will ask you if you want to save the data and then viola you get a visual of your run, like this...

How COOL is that?!?

Now, I added the blue text to point a couple of things out like the ability to name and describe the run. I also loved the fact I could see where I walked for a few seconds. I just think this is really neat.

I don't know about you, but I find this very motivating. I just want to run so I can get a new little graph! (I'm such a geek)

I know some of you out there have used it, anyone want to share their opinion? Anyone not think it's the coolest gadget ever? Just curious. Honestly, I was quite shocked it was only $29. It seems like a pretty fair price to me considering the ease of use and cool tracking stats.

OK, gotta run, it's too late, I shouldn't be up. Throwing a party tomorrow, I'll tell you all about it this weekend. :~)

I FINISHED MY FIRST 5K!

Sorry didn't mean to yell, but I DID IT!! I can't believe it. I mean I've been talking about it for a while now but not until I actually crossed the finish line did it become apparent that I finished my first 5 race!

Roni's 5K my number

It was FUN! The starting gate was jam packed with people and I felt a little out of place among the High School track teams and hoards of shirtless runners with water equipped fanny packs. I stayed towards the back and kept my own pace. People passed me and that was ok. Although, my inner competitor really wanted to smoke them I knew I'd never finish if I didn't keep a slow pace. My goal wasn't speed it was to finish and I did that in exactly 32:40! My goal was 35 minutes so I'm ecstatic!

Here I am about a 10th of a mile from the finish. Honestly, I was dying (can you tell?) The last ½ mile was up hill and I was trying so hard to keep a jogging pace. I did stop to walk twice around the 2 mile and mark but I kept a fast pace just to get through a little cramp-age.

Roni Running in 5K

When I saw the husband and the toddler just after they shot this picture it was the highlight of the event. Once the toddler got a glimpse of me he was so excited and it gave me that push to speed through the finish!

Here's my cheesy post race thumbs up shot. I look like mess but I was glowing on the inside! Really, the feeling post race was more then I expected. I was so happy I finished!

Next time, 30 minutes, what do yo think? Gosh! I'm so goal orientated! lol

HOLY $HIT – I just ran a 5K!

OK, sorry I don’t normally curse but I’m super excited!  Most of you know I’ve been considering signing up for a 5K run after my friend, the trainer, mentioned it to me a few weeks back. I’ve been talking about it ever since but haven’t started actually running.  See, I’m the type of person who need a goal, a reason to do something or I never actually get started.

So a few days ago, there was a running booth set up at the gym. They had a pamphlet for a local 5K event in about 6 weeks. I thought, “Perfect” that gives me 6 weeks to start running and training. Well, today was the day I started. I hoped on the treadmill I made a running mix for my iPod (I’ll post it later), I hit the 5K button, level 1 and away I went!

At first it wasn’t too bad (6 mph), then at about the 8 minute mark I got a cramp and I thought, “uh oh, I can’t do this” and turned it down to a walk (4.7 mph). Then a good song came on and I upped it to a level 3 (7 mph) and before I new it the song was over!! I couldn’t believe it! I must have had a smile on my face from ear to ear, 3 minutes zoomed by and I ran the whole time!!!  I had to knock it back down to my walk about 2 more times but I DID IT! I finished the 5K in just over 36 minutes. I don’t even have any idea if that good or not, all I know is I DID IT. Holy Crap! I really did it. LOL

Ok, seriously I didn’t think I could. Now I am SO looking forward to this run.

I guess I should start training outside, huh? I’m sure it’s way different. Any runners want to share their experiences? This is a really new territory for me.

I’ll be back later, I just really had to post about the run. :~P
